Automatic Slatted Covers

Rigid slats that float on the water and wind onto a roller. They insulate while they protect: a closed slatted cover is a barrier over the surface and a lid on the heat underneath it.

A white slatted cover closed across an indoor pool, in a timber and glass pool house

Lasts

Slats and canvas are replaceable; the track and the drive are not consumables. 2-year on every cover.

Quality

A wide range of colours and custom designs, for both the canvas and the slats. Built to fit inground and aboveground pools.

Protects

Closed, the slats form a solid barrier over the water surface, built to carry the weight of a child who walks onto it.

Mechanism by pool type

Where the roller sits decides the civil works, the aesthetics and how a technician reaches it in ten years. Seven arrangements cover almost every pool. Section diagrams, not photographs. The geometry is the information.

Wet pit WP-01
Section through the pool end: the slatted covers roller sits below water level in a wet pit behind a partition wall.

The roller sits below water level in a wet pit at the end of the pool, behind a partition wall.

  • Advantage: Slats disappear into the pit. Nothing on the water, nothing on the deck.
  • Advantage: Established arrangement, well understood by pool builders.
  • Disadvantage: The pit takes pool length and must be waterproofed with the shell.

Bottom pit BP-02
Section through the pool: the roller sits in a wet pit in the pool floor, closed with an aluminium lid or tiling tray.

The mechanism is hidden in a wet pit at the bottom of the pool, closed with an aluminium lid or a tiling tray.

  • Advantage: The most aesthetic result: no mechanism visible above or beside the water.
  • Advantage: Lid can be tiled to match the pool floor.
  • Disadvantage: Service and maintenance access is genuinely difficult. Specify only if you accept that.

In-wall pit IW-03
Section through the pool end: the roller is recessed into the pool wall so the pool length is preserved.

The roller is recessed into the pool wall at the end, so pool length is preserved.

  • Advantage: Keeps the full swimming length of the pool.
  • Advantage: Mechanism is hidden without a floor pit.
  • Disadvantage: The shell must be engineered around the recess from the start.

Bottom box BB-04
Section through the pool: the roller sits in a prefabricated box on the pool floor, with no shell modification.

A prefabricated box holds the roller on the pool floor. No site-built pit, no shell modification.

  • Advantage: Hidden mechanism on an existing pool, without breaking concrete.
  • Advantage: Factory-built box: predictable dimensions and tolerances.
  • Disadvantage: Occupies part of the pool floor at the end.

The roller sits on the pool floor at the end, submerged and unenclosed.

  • Advantage: Simplest hidden-roller option and the fastest to install.
  • Advantage: Nothing above the water line or on the deck.
  • Disadvantage: The roller and slats are visible through the water.

Section through the pool end: the roller is boxed above the deck and finished as a poolside bench.

The roller is boxed at the pool end and finished as a bench, usually in timber.

  • Advantage: Turns the mechanism into poolside furniture instead of hiding it.
  • Advantage: Full access to the roller by lifting the lid.
  • Disadvantage: Adds a built volume at one end of the pool.

  • Advantage: Lowest cost and the fastest route to a covered pool.
  • Advantage: Everything is reachable for service without draining anything.
  • Disadvantage: The mechanism is in full view at the poolside.

Disadvantages are stated because they decide the specification. If access matters more than the sightline, say so before the pit is poured.

Figures in square brackets are unconfirmed and must be supplied before publication. Which arrangements suit a given pool depends on the shell. A wet pit suits a skimmer pool and not an overflow one.

Safety

A closed PoolLock cover forms a solid barrier over the water surface and is built to carry the weight of a child who walks onto it. A cover reduces risk. Supervision of children around water remains necessary.
